For singer Daniel Spencer, it’s the message in the music that matters most.

He studies songs crafted by talented writers searching for lyrics that touch the heart and a melody that flows. But it’s the message – the Gospel message – that means everything to him and to his listeners.

Daniel came onto the music scene when he was just 4 years old playing guitar and singing country music with his Dad. He is a self-taught musician who learned to play piano by listening to some of his favorite artists in the business. Dirk Johnson, Hargus “Pig” Robbins, and Ronnie Milsap are among the greats he refers to as his heroes. He had the privilege of meeting Dirk Johnson early in his music career. He was honored to be a backstage guest of Dirk’s at the Grand Ole Opry during a performance. Dirk became a mentor and friend to Daniel and is the producer of Daniel’s first album titled “Who I Am.” The recording fulfills a longtime dream of making a professional Nashville album.

“Who I Am” is a reflection of Daniel’s heart and relationship with the Lord. His No. 1 goal with his music is to create an atmosphere for the love of Christ to flow freely. Through life’s trials, hardships, and everyday stress, he wants listeners to know that the Lord is there to comfort and heal. “If someone doesn’t know Him, I hope there is something we can say through music to help them know more about Jesus,” Daniel said.

Gospel music became part of his heart when he turned his talent over to the Lord at age 13. Throughout his teen years he played in church and also traveled around his home state of Mississippi with a Country Gospel music band. He eventually relocated to Nashville where he continued to pursue music and other business endeavors.

Daniel is married to Leslie and has a son, Reid. He also is “Dad” to more than 40 children he and Leslie have fostered since 2007.
